"Five actual works that demonstrate your mastery of design."
"You are asked to demonstrate quality through carefully selected examples of your own work. These works should successfully demonstrate your mastery of design issues. . . Your mastery of design should be apparent in the composition, concept, and execution of your works, whether they are simple or complex. " This is taken from the AP Studio Art poster.
These photos will be printed out/enlarged examples of your VERY BEST work. They can come from any section of the portfolio, or from an additional piece that you have not included in any other section of the portfolio. You will mat these and send them into the College Board on your "test" day in May. The photo above is from the Quality section of a portfolio that received a score of "5".

”The Quality section promotes the development of a sense of excellence in art. For this section, students submit five works that best demonstrate excellence. There are no preconceptions about what the work will look like -- it may have been created quickly or over a long period of time; it may be representational, abstract, stylized or it may show a combination of any of these characteristics. The five works chosen for the Quality section may come from the student's Concentration section and/or Breadth section, but they don't have to. They may be a group of related works, unrelated works, or a combination of related and unrelated works.”

This section can help make or break your portfolio. You are allowed to include pictures from both your Breadth and Concentration sections, but the important thing to remember is that these pictures have to be the best of the best. Do NOT pick out 5 random pictures from your other sections; make sure each of the 5 demonstrate your strengths. Take a look at Monica’s quality photos; she got a 5 on her portfolio.
